I made this this morning because I wanted to use the rest of our bread and I wanted something easy that I could just pop in the oven. It was so yummy and delicious, I will definitely be making it again! The original recipe was found here, but I did change it up a bit. Per usual.
Ingredients
1/2 cup melted butter1 cup brown sugar
12 slices of bread
4 eggs
1 1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
Cinnamon, to taste
Directions
1) Melt butter in microwave, stir in brown sugar.
2) Pour butter/sugar mix into bottom of 9x13 pan and spread around evenly.
3) Beat eggs, milk, vanilla and cinnamon.
4) Lay single layer of toast in pan (6 slices).
5) Spoon half of egg mixture on bread layer.
6) Add second layer of toast.
7) Spoon on remaining egg mixture.
8) Cover and bake at 350 for 45 minutes (uncover for last 15 minutes)
9) Sprinkle with powdered sugar and ENJOY!
You could easily add some pumpkin pie spice or pumpkin puree to "fall" it up, too. We'll definitely do that soon!
Yum Yum!
Is it toast you use or bread? It says both so I'm a little confused
ReplyDeleteSorry for the confusion! You use bread, just plain ole sandwich bread. I hope that helps!
DeleteI made this today, very yummy. The kids liked it and called it monkey french toast, because it tastes similar to monkey bread. I will make it again, but I will use a baking sheet and do a single layer. Thank you for introducing us to your recipe!
ReplyDeleteare you using salted butter or unsalted? and the brown sugar is it dark brown or light Brown
ReplyDeleteUnsalted butter and light brown sugar. Cheers!
DeleteThank you so much for this! I'm about 8 months pregnant, so standing in the kitchen for very long in the morning is not an option right now. This morning I got up, and immediately got this put together and in the oven (with only a little help from my hubby) and it only took a couple minutes. It smells wonderful and I'm sure my family will love it!
ReplyDeleteHow Much Cinnamon did you use?
DeleteIt doesn't say how much cinnamon to use? It just says "to taste", so how do I know how much to use? Hoping to make tonight if I can get a answer...thank you!
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone have a asap answer???????????
DeleteYou can see in the picture where I sprinkle the cinnamon. It's hard to judge how much I used- maybe a tbsp total?
DeleteOk... I made it this morning just step by step but very gooey in the middle. So no one wanted to eat it. Is it suppose to be gooey and dough in the middle of hard and crunchy.
ReplyDeleteMines usually a bit softer than traditional French toast, but not gooey. Did you uncover it at the end? Maybe try uncovering it for longer time?
DeleteDo we have to butter the pan so it doesn't stick?
ReplyDeleteYou pour a butter/sugar mixture on the bottom, which does help with sticking. I've never had issues with sticking though.
DeleteDid someone try with a baking sheet and a single layer of bread? How'd that turn out as far as crunchy or gooey?
ReplyDeleteWondering about a single layer as well. Has anyone tried that? If so did you cook for the same amount of time and temperature?
ReplyDeleteWhat do you cover it with?
ReplyDeleteLOVE It!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI made it to, check it out: http://jaseyjade.blogspot.com/2014/05/mothers-day-french-toast-casserole.html
Glad you liked the recipe, and I love the pineapple addition. Thanks for sharing!
DeleteI bet you could assemble this at nite..refrigerate..bake a bit longer in the morning.
ReplyDeleteI made this with cinnamon raisin bread cut into pieces. It is a favorite "breakfast" dinner.
ReplyDeleteMade this after Christmas Dec. 2019. I agree with another Pinterest comment...too much sugar. So much so that no syrup needed. Next time I will try 1/2 cup sugar....because we do like a drizzle of maple syrup. I baked mine for 40min...removed foil and let it sit while I made scrambled eggs. Overall: this recipe is delicious.
